Nearly three years have gone by since my last blog post.
In that time, we have had the Covid lockdowns, the war in Ukraine, and the cost of living crisis.
On a more personal level, there have been three major events in my life: Martha and I achieved our black belts in Karate, Lucy and I got married, and I have been able to make contact with and start to get to know my youngest daughter Lily.
In those three years, I have maintained a decent level of training - on the bicycle, in the dojo, and with the weights. In August 2020, I injured my right arm setting a new personal record for the barbell curl. This meant that I had to rest and then reset my weight training. I now only lift light weights with high repetition (3 sets of 12 reps.) My left arm is now noticeably bigger than my right, and I'm right handed!
The reason I'm bringing the blog back is to keep me on track: Last week I suffered a motivational crisis. I cycled home from work in the pouring rain, and my bicycle had a punctured front wheel. I stood motionless, dripping water in the man-cave trying to conjure up the will to set up my weight lifting equipment. Instead, I found myself reaching for a beer... The rest of the week was lost to a lack of willpower: I ate and drank whatever I wanted to, and only once turned up to the dojo!
Things are going to be different from now on, watch this space...
